This dynamic Ministry began in late 2016, as a result of an agreement between the Cathedral and the National Cancer Institute (Instituto Oncológico Nacional) (formerly Gorgas Hospital).
On the first Saturday of each month, from early in the morning to early afternoon, volunteers assist in the preparation of meals in the St Luke’s kitchen and then deliver and/or serve them to family and friends caring for cancer patients at the Oncological Hospital which is just up the street from St. Luke’s. All are welcome to help with preparation, serving and/or delivering. During the dry season, lunch is served in the Cathedral garden and guests are given their meals and visited with by volunteers who include members of the congregation, as well as a group of young professionals from the community who have dedicated themselves to this program. Our volunteers include professional chefs who prepare delicious and nutritious meals for our guests. In addition to receiving a delicious and healthy meal, all receive a warm and thoughtful welcome and are encouraged to take some respite from their difficult tasks at the hospital.
